  • Went to Cleveland with a friend to explore the area and we stayed for a long weekend at the Crowne Plaza. We wanted to stay downtown but it was a big sports weekend for multiple teams and all the decent hotels downtown were sold out. So, we got a Priceline deal at Crowne Plaza in Independence which was about a 15 minute drive from downtown. The commute to the downtown area was pretty easy and the hotel facility was nice enough. Decent room, comfy beds, friendly staff at check in. The big reason for my less-than-great review was that the bathroom in our room was dirty when we checked in. Dirty in a gross way - the toilet had not been flushed and it wasn't just pee. Sure, these things happen - but after my friend politely and discretely reported the issue to the front desk, they did nothing. Which I found surprising. The hotel has a restaurant on site and a complimentary cocktail or appetizer or some similar gesture would have gone a long way. Bottom line: the first thing we had to deal with was some stranger's poop. Had it not been a busy Cleveland weekend, we would have switched hotels. This should have been handled better.
