rev:text	The hospital doesn't care about people. My mother died 3 days after being taken to the ER and admitted into a regular unit. She presented with an infection and symptoms that should have clued them into the fact she had SEPSIS. It is standard of care that prompt medical care be given when a patient has sepsis - a patient's chances of survival drop 6% every hour that they don't get that treatment. "Time is Tissue." Instead she suffered pain and a medical resident decided he wanted to do a heart function test on Mom (heart arrhythmia is a sepsis symptom). Two and half days go by and by the time the doctors realize she had sepsis she has now gone into shock. i was told that the one good thing we know "her heart is healthy." Then the nurse fed her food and she aspirated when intubated (orders of no food and water) - so when her kidney shut down the doctors said she was not a candidate for dialysis because of the fluid in her lungs. She was in great pain and was taken off Morphine due to her blood pressure tanking. The drop in blood pressure was Mom going into shock. All of the signs of sepsis were ignored by staff or maybe they didn't know what the signs were which is worse. Sepsis ran its course and any chance of Mom surviving plummeted once she went into septic shock (5%) 3 days after arriving at the ER. If she had received prompt treatment then she would have had a fighting chance. Not saying she would have survived but she would have had a CHANCE - St. Joe's took that away. I would never recommend this hospital. Sepsis is the number 3 killer in this country - it kills more than lung, breast and prostrate cancers combined in a year. It is essential that medical staff know to to identify and PROMPTLY treat - until then St. Joe's is going to continue killing lots of people. Oh by the way - the doctor at St. Joseph's who filled out the death certificate didn't even mention what killed her; Sepsis.
