| - We went to Casbah for my mom's birthday dinner with a group of lady friends. It was a hot evening and one of our friends had called ahead to arrange a patio seat. It is a beautiful patio, but no fans and was quite warm so plan ahead if you have people in your party who run a little warm.
We were there during their Festival of Pasta. I should have known something was up when I checked out the pricing of the dishes and they seemed to be a very fair $13-19 per dish. Our waitress was very busy and hadn't had a chance to explain what the festival meant until we were ready to order when we were informed that to make a true meal, they recommended ordering 2-3 pastas per person or ordering many for the table to share as each meal only contained 2-3 ounces (!!!) of pasta per order. Uhhh...I don't know about you but paying $13-19 bucks for 2-3 ounces of pasta seemed pretty darn pricey. We then had to re-group and wait to place our order with this new information. We all decided on a soup or salad in addition to our sole pasta dish.
For an appetizer we all shared the bruschetta. 3 pieces of rock hard bread with a cheesy spread, greens, corn and some tomatoes on it. I think it was 12 bucks? So like 4 bucks per piece of bread...it was okay but the bread was entirely too crisped.
I had the peach gazpacho soup and did really enjoy it. It fit the warm night perfectly. I didn't get the addition of a plop of avocado in the middle of it, but who doesn't love avocado so I rolled with it.
For my meal, I thoroughly enjoyed my 2-3 ounces of cavatelli with fennel sausage, ricotta, spinach and crushed tomatoes. It was really delicious. I would have loved more!! I made sure to use the bread to sop up every last drop of sauce. However, my mother had ordered the lasagna for her meal which was your pretty classic marinara and bechamel sauce containing lasagna. It was plated on literally a small side plate and the whole piece of lasagna was probably about 1.5-2 inches squared. It honestly looked insultingly small, this tiny piece of lasagna, on an itty bitty plate. Just put it on a real plate or something that could pass as a real plate! It just seemed to highlight that you are paying a good chunk of change for a few bites of food. The lasagna was also dried out and just pretty blah.
For dessert we tried the dark chocolate bread pudding. It was the first thing we ordered all night that came out looking like it was actually meant to leave you feeling full. Bread pudding is like one of my all-time fave desserts and this was good...but not the best. However, this would be a great dessert to share because it actually came with food!
Overall, we had a good time but definitely it was because of the group of people we had together, and not much to do with the food. I gotta say that I love a fancy restaurant here and there, but this just did not feel worth it to me. I do not think I will be back.
