| - If this place was any closer to my house, I'd weigh twice as much. If you're not a vegetarian, give this place a shot. Just do it.
I was introduced to this place many years ago when I worked in the area and would come by periodically for lunch. As much as I love cheesesteaks, man cannot live on cheesesteak alone... though a good argument could be made that a cheesesteak is a balanced meal: meat, dairy (cheese), grain (bread) and veggies (peppers). Maybe get a salad and skip the fries to balance it out a little more :)
I am not from Philly, nor do I know what a "real" Philly steak looks like, but these guys know how to make a grilled shaved steak sandwich. The beef is cooked perfectly (a good amount of "drip," not dried out) and the bread is really fresh. Even if I were thinking about cutting back on carbs, I'd have to make an exception for their bread. The portions are large enough that the "regular" sandwich is more than I really need to eat, but not so much that I have leftovers.
I got my sandwich with Provolone this time. It was OK. I usually get the Whiz and recommend that with peppers and mushrooms. Whatever you do, don't leave the cheese off; that's an abomination. :D
