| - In comparison to Hairy Tarantula downtown, this west-end store comes up painfully short. It's one small-ish room (with high ceilings, at least), crammed with more product than the space can happily accommodate. There's just too much stuff just laying haphazardly on the floor, strewn across tables, jammed onto top shelves and, all in all, I really felt more like I was perusing some bloak's messy basement than an actual shop.
They did seem to have a nice selection of comics/manga and video games, which I'm sure is a big draw for them...
... I came for the boardgames, and please permit me a bit of a rant:
If you think I'm stupid enough to believe you're giving me a deal because you've jacked your prices up 30% higher than MSRP, then offer me a 30% discount "off all boardgames", guess what? Some people may fall for your ruse, but not this fella -- I feel insulted whenever this practice is implemented, and it's no different here. I expected more from a shop carrying the Hairy T name.
The most glaringly obvious were the big ticket titles. I noted one game priced at $129, and know the MSRP is around $95. Now, as with other reviews of game stores I've made, I'm actually willing to pay for premiums to support lovely shops that have amazing staff, give me free games nights, and all-in-all make me feel incredibly welcome. Hairy T-W does none of these things. Thus, as said, I just came outta there feeling insulted.
Sad. :(
