| - I just returned from Alpine to get a quote about a Stihl 261CM chainsaw & kit. Rocky Dimilta, one of the owners since 1975(?!), treated me with respect as I outlined what my needs were (from the saw). 3 seasons ago, I bought a FS170 brush cutter from Alpine & was pleased with the results.
BEFORE YOU WALK INTO THE STORE, I'd recommend the following preparation: (a) make a short list of saws & accessories I want to buy. Download the flyer. Type out a list of gear & MRSP. (B) assemble a quote that includes several items (package price). (C) Go to the Stihl website & download the catalogue & the Canadian $$$ flyer. Read it & figure out what saw & accessories I need. Again, type it out. (D) Please, please, please consider taking a chainsaw safety course (the one I took from the OPA taught me proper saw maintenance, handling, and felling procedures). (E) Avoid peak times (Friday p.m. = bad news). WHEN I WALKED INTO ALPINE, I HAD A GOOD IDEA WHAT I WANTED, WHICH HELPED THE OWNER FIGURE OUT A GOOD PACKAGE FOR ME. I'll go back.
