| - I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs. They usually leave me feeling icky and gassy and no one wants to be around me after I've had one. But when we asked our friend to take us somewhere delicious in Phoenix, she suggested Short Leash, so we threw caution to the wind and went with her.
This is definitely not your typical hot dog place. There are all kinds of flavors to choose from, and you can choose the type of wiener you get. During this visit, I opted for an all beef Bear -- peanut butter, smoked gouda, bacon, BBQ sauce, and Cracker Jack. Yep. Cracker Jack and I also don't have a good relationship, but it sounded like a good day to give things a second chance. When our orders came out, each wiener was wrapped in fluffy naan rather than the traditional hot dog bun. I was absolutely blown away by the flavor combination in the Bear. The sweetness of the BBQ sauce, Cracker Jack, and peanut butter mixed perfectly with the savory gouda and meat. I never knew a hot dog could taste so good.
Seating at this brick and mortar shop is also pretty spacious. Plenty of seats indoors and outdoors.
