Hey! We're sorry you weren't satisfied with your visit. We suggest services based on life/miles of your car or your manufacturer.
We try to let you know what's recommended for safety before there is a major problem. Hopefully you'll try us again in the future!

So, to respond to this:
The fellow at the store who recommended the service to me said he was recommending it based on the life/miles of the car. The serpentine belt did need to be replaced, but I was able to find a garage that would do the job for 1/4 what Conrad's wanted to do the job. One quarter.
Later, I needed an oil change, so I took it to my dealership because I wanted a second opinion and wanted to learn what their price would be for the work. They told me after inspecting the car that the steering fluid, hoses, and shocks and struts did not need to be replaced anytime soon. I trust the dealer.
I appreciate the safety impact of proper maintenance. I don't appreciate "safety" used to scare me into spending $1800 that isn't needed.
The conclusion: Conrads is fine if you need to buy tires, or if you simply need an oil change, but get a second opinion and shop around if you need anything more done. Very likely you'll be able to find a better price.
You're still on the hook for my tire warranty and for the free rotations that came with my tires, so I'll probably use you again for oil changes -- I can't really justify having the car in the garage at two different places and taking the time to do that. But I don't plan to buy my next tires there, and it'd take a lot to earn my business again now that the trust I'd put in you for over a decade has been harmed.
