My fiance took me to Portland's to celebrate my birthday. It was a Tuesday night, so the place was pretty empty. They had champagne on ice waiting for us and we received exceptional service. We started with the cheese plate and the prosciutto wrapped asparagus. The asparagus dish was tasty but the prosciutto seemed a little over done and slightly harder / crunchier then I expected. But the flavor was good. The cheese plate had two cheeses. The cheese was good, but not phenomenal and not what I would have chosen for a cheese plate. I had the filet mignon, medium rare. This steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. The au gratin potatoes on the side were sinfully good. My fiance had the scallops. The dish comes with three large scallops...would have expected at least two more scallops for the price. The were cooked just about right and he enjoyed them, but we've both had better. This place seems like a great destination for a burger (their selection was pretty big in this department) and wine or beer. The service was great, friendly, informative and they really bent over backwards to accommodate the fact it was my birthday, which I appreciated. The food was good, but not exceptional, special or mind blowing. If I could, I'd give this place 3.5 stars. It's almost to 4.....just not quite there yet.
