| - It's easy to miss the sign for this neighborhood sushi joint on Sunset. In fact, the first time we ate here, it was after we passed the place 5 times because we mistook Blue Fin for Checkers, which is located next door. I am so glad we drove by that 6th time!!
While there is certainly an ACYE option, which looks great, my man and I trust Jin, sushi-chef extraordinaire and proprietor, to surprise us every time we eat at this fine establishment. To his credit, he never disappoints... and surprise he certainly does! His handroll creations (his spicy yellowtail with special sauce and shiso-tuna handrolls are our favs) are excellent. But, his take on a sashimi salad (one specially named for me) takes the cake. I'm admittedly biased - wouldn't you be if you had a salad named after you? But, then again, you can't be all that biased when this particular sashimi salad is made up of a spicy tuna poke nestled in fresh greeens, a medley of generous cuts of salmon, tuna, yellowtail (and whatever other fresh fish is at his disposal that day), and a dash of truffle-oil! We are also big fans of his cajun albacore sashimi, which is spiced to perfection, and his signature Blue Fin roll (it's the cilantro flavoring that gives this roll its extra boost).
The staff at Blue Fin is friendly and extremely family-oriented. In fact, Jin and his lovely wife, Yura, often work side-by-side to ensure a great resto experience. The rest of the staff is also pleasant and always aim to please.
My only tip for improvement: get a bigger sign so that more people can discover your wonderful restaurant!!
