  • Shades of Sinatra is a decidedly mixed experience. If you love Frankie and the songs he sang (but never wrote), you'll enjoy this corny, warm, abbreviated medley of Sinatra standards. The venue is vintage mid-20th century jazz club, and sitting in one of the booths up front (if you can get one) makes you feel like you're in an old film noir or a gangster movie. A waitress comes around beforehand to take orders for drinks and food that are very reasonably priced (standard for a mid-price restaurant, and much less than a normal comedy or music club). The show itself is fairly short, and the songs are all shorter versions of the originals, but that just ensures that you won't get bored. There's very lame banter between songs that is supposed to lead into certain numbers but which just fell flat many times. If I could change one thing about the show, it would be the awful jokes. The performers are a fun but mixed bunch. I loved Larry Liso (who resembles Steve Van Zandt). He is easily the most charismatic and has the best stage presence of the bunch. Larry was entertaining, engaging, and the saving grace of the show (although he should stay away from the De Niro impersonations). Carmine Mandia (who looks like Jerry Lewis) isn't bad, and he and Larry could easily do the show themselves. Ryan Baker (who is the spitting image of Jon Hamm) is the weakest member of the group, and I didn't enjoy either his singing or his stiff stage presence. Finally, I'm not sure why Lisa Smith is in the show; she's not bad on some duets, but she needs to tone down the rip-roaring diva voice every other measure. All in all, a fairly affordable and enjoyable show off the strip, though decidedly B-list entertainment. (Parking at the venue is very convenient.)
