  • So, the James Street!!! One of my all time favorite haunts for decades!!! Sadly, it's just not what it used to be!!!!! Just came from having lunch with a friend, and while the place was not the least bit crowded at 12:15, the service was mediocre at best! Not unpleasant, just slow to bring out our orders - I guess that really lies squarely on the kitchen perhaps! Our orders were both somewhat incorrect and my friend did not get one of the things she ordered at all! My food and the wine, which both should have been served cold, were room temp and not terribly appetizing! The restaurant itself, on a very warm day, was uncomfortably warm!!! In recent months, my visits to James Street have been hit and miss - sometimes acceptable, sometimes not so great! In years past, this was never the case!! On the busiest of nights - always great food, great service, great music - even when it was standing room only!!!!! Now, much of the amazing jazz is gone and the revised menu, while still somewhat appealing, is a little more generic, and often fails to deliver on taste and presentation!! Comparatively, it seems to be going the way of other nearby watering holes like Max's Allegheny Tavern and the Park House - younger drinking crowd, average food, less jazz - I guess it's just not what it used to be - perhaps those days are gone for good!!! Another classic bites the dust!!!!!
