| - Let me start by saying I have been a regular client of Kathy's and have never had a terrible experience until now. Some manicures aren't always the greatest, but I figure you get what you pay for.
That being said, in late October I went in for a regular shellac manicure with removal. At the time of the removal, the associate left the acetone on my hands for quite some time (well over 15 minutes). When I noticed she was starting to manicure my one hand while leaving the other in the acetone, I asked her to remove promptly. She did so.
The next day, my fingertips felt raw. Over the coming days, my skin started to peel and was very dry despite continual moisturizing. I realized the acetone had burned my hands. After three days since the manicure, I also noticed the shellac was chipping in corners as well so I decided to return to have it fixed.
I went in quietly and spoke with the man at the counter, being sure to mention I had never had an issue before but if this could be rectified, I'd be content. He cut me off and shouted to the associates. All of a sudden, everyone in the shop was looking at me. He asked me to point out the associate who did the manicure initially. One by one we went through all the associates. It was humiliating. Thankfully she wasn't there that day.
After all this, he assigned me to another associate who then proceeded to add polish on top of the shellac, rather than removing the nail and starting fresh. When I asked her if she could just remove it and start over, she said the charge would be $25 and that it wasn't her fault this had happened.
This was a sobering moment for me. Despite my loyalty to them, they shared no loyalty to me. I will not be returning and would warn others to keep in mind how long the acetone is on your skin in places like these.
I've shared a few photos in my profile to show the damage. It has been over two weeks and my hands have still not fully healed. It is itchy, tender and sore, as all new skin growing in can be.
