| - I remember coming here a few years ago and really liking it, so when Deal Chicken had an offer for $15 for $30 worth of food and drinks, I grabbed one. I finally went to use it yesterday and was pretty underwhelmed.
Things started off great. My boyfriend and I got there at around noon on Sunday, and since the place wasn't very crowded, we were allowed to pick where we wanted to sit. Our waiter promptly took our drink orders and brought us out chips and salsa. The chips were amazing! Probably some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant.
Since we had $30 to spend and weren't drinking, we opted to get an order of mini chimis to start. The meat inside the chimis was pretty good, but the chimi itself was disappointing. It didn't have that typical crisp that fried things should have, and it was actually kind of soggy.
For our entrees, I got the stuffed sopaipilla with carne adovada and red sauce, and my boyfriend had the smothered bean and cheese burrito with green sauce. The red sauce was good and super spicy, but the meat was pretty dry. I was thinking a "smothered" burrito would be covered in sauce, enchilada style, but instead it just had a spoonful of diced green chiles thrown on top. The burrito was okay, but the rice on both of our plates was pretty bland and some of it was still crunchy and undercooked.
Right after we got our entrees, the place got pretty crowded and our waiter seemed to forget about us. We wanted to get dessert, but it took so long for him to just come by and clear our plates that we opted to just get the check and go.
If I was in the neighborhood and was really craving Mexican food, I might stop by. But I definitely would not drive out of my way to come here.
