| - Although my local Yen Sushi is now long gone out in Los Angeles, I was happy to see Yen in Phoenix while I was visiting. I popped in around 3:30 in the afternoon, hoping their happy hour was in effect, and it definitely was. The happy hour sushi menu is a little more spartan than the one I remember from Los Angeles, but the good stuff was on here and I was happy. At $5 a roll, you can't really go wrong... and I was starving. I snagged a crispy tuna, tempura shrimp, and a chili crab roll. Everything was fantastic, and prepared well.
The chili crab was the star of the show. It came out piled high with lightly tempura battered jalapeno slices. The entire plate was a mound of crunchy, tasty little jalapenos with a crab roll underneath. I sat and ate the whole plate of chillies one by one when the rest of my meal was done. They were delicious. Sure, that might seem sadistic to some, but they were pretty tame on the heat, and really over the top with flavor.
Great meal. Just what I was looking for, and perfect to combat an entire day of driving through the desert. Oh, and the waitstaff was on point. Very attentive, very friendly, and made sure I was well taken care of. Thanks, Yen.
