  • Byron is an excellent tattoo artist. But I hope he has gotten better at client relations. A few years ago I did a lot of research and picked him for his style. We collaborated on what I wanted. Everything went smoothly other than I think he took much longer than the tattoo should have taken, but I was happy with the result so it didn't matter. I came back a couple months later for another one. I had originally wanted something small below the back of my knees. Planning to spend about the same as my last tattoo. I went over the design with him and this time he had a really hard time listening to what I wanted he wanted to do the design the way he imagined it. I had a lot of back and forth with him where I felt like he was pressuring me toward what he wanted to do rather than what I was asking for (which still had a lot of room for creativity) I just didn't like the direction he was going. We finally settled on a design that was MUCH larger and a different placement than I had originally planned but I didn't want to challenge him even more so I went with it. We split the session into 2 consecutive days. He set aside the whole day for me both days. I arrived on time as I was scheduled. Both days he kept me waiting in the lobby for hours while he stood outside smoking cigarettes and talking to random people. (This was not a good start to the day) He finally got to working and took smoke breaks (on the clock). The second day I came in for my second leg and he did not cover the table or my freshly sore leg from the previous day. I had my leg on the table the whole time and it later got infected on the place it was resting on the table and that part of the tattoo was ruined. End result I paid twice as much as I had planned for a very nice tattoo that was much larger than I wanted. I was not happy that I had to pay for his smoke breaks, and he was rude and disrespectful about my time. I did not want to go back to him after it had healed to fix it. Since then I've been to a couple other artists, one for a sleeve, just as good quality from an artist who doesn't smoke (I will no longer go to smoker artists) and doesn't drag out his time, respects his clients, so Byron's treatment to me was glaring in comparison. Like I said, this was quite a while ago, but it still bums me out because had I to do it over again I would have pushed more for what I really wanted. I don't know if he's gotten more courteous to his clients, but I would not recommend him despite his skills. There are other tattooers that are just as good and respect their clients. PS. I wrote this review before reading some of the others and the sentiment that repeat customers are treated differently than the first time rings true for me. I very much felt like I was given the bait and switch as far as this artist's personality. I'm not tattoo novice either. I had a very large back piece and a few others pieces before coming in to see Byron. I'm also an artist (not tattoo) so I understand the business. I'm not just some noob walking in to get a tattoo. But this was my first time hiring someone I didn't know personally. I should have spoken up more and I'll blame myself for that. But how he treated me for my second go around was much different than the first. Which is too bad because I have a friend looking for a good cover up artist and asked me about my tattoos. I couldn't recommend black lotus to her because of my experience, which prompted me to write this review.
