Whether your tastes embrace theater, musical entertainment from opera to rock, peaceful urban parks, Shakespeare, a good meal-- or a combination of the above-- you've gotta love Playhouse Square.
The five theaters at the heart of this cultural mecca (State, Hanna, Ohio, Palace and Allen) were each opulent and architecturally significant when constructed in the 1920's. Saved from the wrecking ball in the period of 1972 through 1999, Playhouse Square is now second only to New York's Broadway as a theater complex.
The resilience and spirit of rebirth permeate this remarkable area; yet another reason why those who ridicule Cleveland from afar should get to know it better.
