| - Yoga is one of those things that I always thought I *should* like, but every time I tried it, I hated it. It was either too slow (which puts too much pressure on my joints) or too fast (which doesn't get me the stretch I need), or it was just too competitive.
A couple of years ago, I got into dance movement classes, and when I moved here, I found that Barefoot had a dance movement class. I loved the teachers and the feeling of community (that didn't exclude me as a first timer) and that everyone felt free to move and adapt as necessary for their own needs.
Since then, I've found that this philosophy extends to their yoga classes. Every teacher offers several variations on each pose. At any given time, you'll have most of the class doing the pose at their personal level, maybe one person doing an advanced move and someone else in child's pose to take a break for a minute. It's all about leaving the rest of your life at the door and taking time for yourself on your mat.
Damn it, I think I love yoga now. What have they done to me??!!!
Check their online schedule for classes, there is always a free yoga class (currently at 4:30p on Sundays) and often a wide variety of workshops as well as the regular classes (wide range of styles). There is a kids class on the weekend.
