  • So let's face it, I don't have huge boobs (anymore) but for whatever reason, partly resulting from having lost a significant amount of weight in my 20's and partly resulting from having been pregnant, etc., they're still awkwardly sized and no off-the-rack Victoria's Secret or La Senza garment works. It's unfortunate because La Senza sells bras for like, $12, which is what some people spend on lattes on a regular day. I have literally been going to Sophia's since I was a teenager. My mum used to wake me up bright and early on a Saturday to make the drive into "the city" from Brampton so I could get "proper" bras and be "properly sized" for them. In those days I was a 44 H (that's a huge bitch, people!) and La Senza's biggest size was a 42 D. Yep. Like half the size I needed. And there were no speciality lingerie stores in Brampton that we knew of. We were often told to go to the States, because, like the people are way bigger there than here (?) but managed to find this little place, which is stocked to the gills with bras and panties and speciality lingerie (bridal stuff, etc.). And, if they don't have something, they'll order it. Thank God they're still open, because 15 years later, I still shop there. As an adult, I've come to realize that every woman has 3 bras and that they wear one of those (the same one) every day, one for "going out" and one is a super colourful/fun/nice bra that either doesn't fit or doesn't see the light of day because it's wholly impractical. So I'm OK with the fact that I only buy 1-2 bras per year and that I wash them by hand, in my bathtub, like Rosie the Riveter. Sophia's has fantastic staff, excellent stock and "put you in your place" attitudes. Like when I pick things I like off the racks and ask to try demi-bras or the like in my size and they smile, laugh and then bring me a bra more resembling a t-shirt than anything remotely sexy. It's all about practicality here. Price is an interesting issue to wrap your head around. I've never paid less than $100 for one bra there. Most of their stock is from Paris or somewhere equally as chic-chic. The fact that it fits, though, and doesn't send you to the chiropractor weekly because your back is doing the work that your bra should be, is worth something.
