I went to Marrakech with my family for my birthday dinner this week and really enjoyed the experience.
However, there were a few things that were odd to me. We went on Wednesday evening and there was only one other table seated in the restaurant. I was surprised that they did not have more business than that and honestly it worried me a little. That also made it a little awkward when the belly dancer came out. Though she was wonderful and very entertaining it felt a little like she was performing just for us and that made me slightly uncomfortable. I don't know why.
For the amount of people in there the time I felt like the service was a little slow. Perhaps they were giving us time to chat and digest between courses?
I really liked that they washed our hands with rose water first. It smelled amazing.
The food was very good. The flavor of their hummus is wonderful. I really liked the beef kabobs but they were very very hot so be careful! The mint tea with dessert was a perfect ending. And speaking of dessert it was amazing! It's called "b'stilla" and it's basically chocolate, banana, and walnut warmed up and gooey inside puff pastry and coated in powdered sugar and cinnamon. We were all so full and then suddenly found plenty of room to stuff ourselves with dessert.
Overall, it was a unique and fun dining experience and something I would recommend trying at least once.
