  • With everything in me I really wanted to like this Donut Parlor. I found it on yelp yesterday and because their reviews were so high, I told my boss and co-workers that I would be bringing donuts in this morning. Mind you, I live by Southern and the 101, so stopping by here this morning meant going out of my way and dealing with 60 traffic, when I otherwise don't have to. (Which would have been fine if they would have blown us away) The gentleman was very nice and pleasant, so this review has nothing to with the type of service received and the Parlor was extremely clean. The place was smaller than it looked in the photos and they didn't have a lot of variety for a specialty shop. (Variety to me does not mean the same donut with different varietals of cereal on top.) I bought one dozen, mix and matched of what I thought people would be able to try to give a good sampling on their pallets. Buttermilk, maple, blueberry, old fashioned, strawberry/ coconut, cinnamon roll and 2 apple fritters. I ate the Old Fashioned on my way to work and it was just nothing I would tell anyone about. I was immediately disappointed. It was dry and tasted like it had been sitting out awhile. I thought, well maybe that's just me. Let's see what the rest are like. Here are a few of the comments from my co-workers. Regarding the apple fritter, "Its hard and crispy and thin." "This is actually the best COOKIE I've ever had" (Great, had it been a cookie) Regarding the Buttermilk Bar, "Really Dry" (My co-worker who finished everything, didn't eat the whole thing.) Regarding the Cereal Donuts, "I really thought these would be amazing, like with cream or something inside. Really they're just the same donuts with different toppings" All in all. They were inexpensive and I don't regret trying them and giving them my business. But sadly, having been to the likes of Voodoo Donuts in Portland, The Doughnut Project in New York and Black Bird Donuts in Boston, this will not become my new go to spot to tell friends and family about.
