  • This review will be mostly about the skating area at Greenwood Park. The rest of the park is pretty much average with a playground, outdoor swimming pool, baseball diamond, soccer field, basketball nets in the ice rink during the summer, and then some open park space. Overall, it seems to be a little better maintained than when I've been around the area in previous years. As for the skating area, it was actually the first place that I went skating when I started back in the spring of 2015. There are 2 parts to the area, a standard hockey rink and a figure-8 skating trail. There is also a small building where one can change or find the on-site staff, and there is an on-site Zamboni which I sometimes see if I am there around mid-day. The ice rink is often in use for hockey, but is available for public skating otherwise, and is covered so the ice is generally in good condition. I quite like the skating trail, a smaller version of the one at Colonel Samuel Smith Park (see my separate 5-star review). It is a narrow oval at the west end with a few benches and a walkway, while the east end is a larger somewhat-circular trail with an extra turn. It is usually pretty empty when I go on Mondays, but is definitely busier on weekends. I have only ever seen the staff out on the skating trail when it is busy, they are generally inside when there are only a few adults skating. I will mention 2 drawbacks: the rink and building create a little west-east tunnel effect on windy days; and the ice does not seem to be too thick, so the open eastern end of the circle tends to get a little soft on mild or sunny days. But overall I would definitely recommend as a quieter alternative to some of the more popular skating areas.
