| - Don't let the pink box fool you, this place is straight from your childhood. No foo-fy doughnuts here, just heaven in a box.
I was on a extensive hunt for an old school buttermilk doughnut with maple or cherry icing that I used to eat as a kid. I searched for miles and only came across these newer places where, although their doughnuts were good, they weren't "thee doughnut." I needed that dense caramelized crunchy outside with the cake on the inside and gorgeous shiny cherry and maple colored awesomeness on top. You know what they say, if you think hard enough about something, it will materialize. I yelped it one day, and there she was. Before me, was that cherry donut I had been dreaming about .Friendly Donut House was the place. So today I took my little one for a ride to introduce him to what Mama used to eat as a kid.
We walked In, and I saw this cute older gentleman in the back, with one of those old school icing machines that you squeeze with your hands, drenching the apple fritters. Oh my god, I need that job! He was really nice, I think it's the owner. It was like a one man project he was doing everything himself. We got a half dozen, maple, cherry and chocolate. We sat down to eat a couple, knowing it would be torture on the way home if we didn't. Oh my god! It was like going back in time. They were so fresh but crunchy, Caramelized but not oily. This place is a hidden gem in old Henderson. I will travel far for good food, Friendly Donut House, I will be back.
