| - Visited Brocach on a Friday with high hopes for their Friday Fish Fry, and despite a small letdown, it was great!
Online, Brocach on the Square advertises their Friday Fish Fry Special as the "Traditional Wisconsin Fish Fry: choose baked or fried cod, choice of potato (hand-cut fries, Colcannon mash or baked sweet), rye bread, house-made tartar". The part about this description that had me hooked was the option to have a baked sweet potato as my side. I LOVE sweet potatoes, and man oh man a baked sweet tater sounded so amazing with my fish. Well....... turns out, they don't have sweet potatoes to serve baked at Brocach. Womp. I was super bummed, but still stuck with the Fish Fry and tried the Colcannon mash instead.
So anyways, we ate at the bar, had friendly service, and the food arrived after 20 minutes or so. The fish fry was so good! I wasn't so sad that they didn't have the sweet potato after trying the Colcannon mash - mmmmm yep it was good. Had green onions in it and the skin from the potatoes, and maybe more? Not sure, but it was tasty. I opted for the baked fish, which was good and they gave me three pieces. The coleslaw was super tasty too! And the rye bread was perfectly toasted and so soft. Overall, a wonderful meal that filled me up but didn't leave me feeling overstuffed and yucky like some fish fry's do to me.
I would definitely return to Brocach for a fish fry, and I know it's on my list of places to go when I'm looking for some yummy Irish dishes!
