  • I've been going to this place for over a year now, mostly because of convenience. It's very close to where I live. Overall, relative to price, this isn't a bad barbershop. While the staff skill level, in my opinion, is uneven, the owner and a couple of the other barbers do satisfactory work. Word of warning: the Asian (male) barber, in my opinion, is terrible...one of the worst barbers I've ever experienced. He bangs his electric trimmer against your head and does uneven work on very short hair. You take a seat in his barber's chair at your own risk. Before today, I would have given this place three stars, but just hours ago I came away from there with a very bad experience. This shop closes at six on Saturdays, and today I came in at ten minutes to six. I immediately asked the owner, Joe, if I was too late. Instead of doing the professional thing, which was either to tell me that I was in time or to politely tell me that they had already started closing for the evening and I should come back on Monday, he started complaining to me that I was always coming in late and what was I thinking coming in at ten to six for a haircut. He finally told me to come in since I was already there, but despite four barbers standing around without customers in this small shop, I was directed to go to the Asian barber, whom I normally avoid. I was so taken aback by the rude reception that I just sat down and let this incompetent barber bang away at my head with his trimmer. As usual, he cut my hair much shorter than I wanted, and Joe noticed this and changed his tune after I'd paid (and gave my barber my standard 20% tip). Joe started apologizing and saying that his barbers pressure him to close the shop right at six. I'm sorry, Joe, but that's not my problem. If you have some kind of issue with your barbers, don't take it out on me. Needless to say, I'm in the market for a new barber, and might give Hollow Ground or Gus' a try. A very disappointing experience, particularly given that I've been a regular client and a decent tipper.
