| - When the craptastic Dell Studio laptop I've been using inevitably broke down, I was in the market for a computer repair guy / gal. So I typed "computer repair" into Yelp and noted the glowing review of Remachines by Scrantz L. So on Friday, I made the pilgrimage to from Waunakee to Remachine's location on the Square to see if they were as good as advertised.
The Verdict: Nate of Remachines rocks. He quickly diagnosed the problem, researched potential solutions and provided me with an estimate an hour later. During that time I took the laptop to Midwest Komputer who wanted to charge me $59 to run some diagnostics before providing me with an estimate. For reals, bro...I think not! Dude, I can see that the wire between the power button and the motherboard is disconnected. Can I charge you $59 for that visual diagnostic. Sorry, I digress.
So, I dropped of the laptop with Nate who indicated the repairs would be completed by Tuesday.
On Monday, I get a call from Nate indicating the repairs are complete. Sweet! Nate not only reconnected the broken wire but also fixed the defective hinge that caused the problem in the first place. I couldn't be more pleased. And as Scrantz mentioned in her initial review, Nate thanked me for the business. If (or should I say when) the ol' Dell Studio craps out again, I'll be using Remachines to make things better.
Bonus content:
* Outside the office of Remachines are some old school arcade games (DigDug, 1943, Time Pilot). I enjoyed the trip down memory lane while waiting for Nate to finish up with another customer.
* Because of the location on the Square, finding a parking spot was a pain in the keister.
* There are coupons on the Remachines website to help cushion the cost of the repairs. Also, you get $10 off if you like Remachines on Facebook.
* There is a 5% surcharge for using plastic to pay for your repairs.
* As Scrantz mentioned in her review, Remachines also sells refurbished computers.
Bottom line, if your computer goes on the blink, I highly recommend Nate of Remachines. He is knowledgeable, prompt and courteous.
