  • As a former volunteer/foster I am disgusted with how this rescue is run. The dogs are in horrible condition, they are treated horribly in their "facility" and sadly because of our crappy animal abuse laws there seems to be little we can do about it. I have fostered for several rescues here in Phoenix so when I adopted a dog from WWW (which was covered in ticks by the way) and was asked if I would help with an adoption event I agreed. At first I didn't see anything wrong, but as time went on and I helped at other events there were more and more red flags. Dogs would arrive at the Petsmart covered in poop, some of them sick. One day a 4 month old deaf pit bull puppy arrived crammed into a travel crate with another dog covered in poop from his head to his tail. There was something wrong with his feet and when I asked about it, the lady who runs the show there, Dani, said that their vet had told them if he did not get adopted or fostered he would have permanent damage from being in a crate 24/7. His feet were webbed and he could hardly walk without tripping. I immediately offered to foster him and within 3 weeks his feet were 100 times better. This is when I seriously started asking questions about this "facility" where they kept the dogs. One long time volunteer said the new facility was better than the old one. Another volunteer was as equally disgusted as I was with the conditions and said that there were also dogs kept at the founders house which was even more disgusting. I decided that I needed to see this place. I volunteered to walk dogs there one day, took a friend and my daughter with me and said, "if this place is as bad as I suspect it is, we need to take pictures". When Dani opened the door to the old Companion Animal clinic which they had rented, the smell of diarrhea hit us in the face, almost made me puke it was so bad. I can't even describe it. Needless to say it was horrifying. All of the dogs are kept in small kennels or dog crates 24/7 with one or maybe two short walks a day, depending on whether there are volunteers to do it. There are no windows or visible ventilation, and when the volunteers are done, the lights are turned out and they are in the dark. They are alone in there the majority of the time. Many of them are sick, with kennel cough or various other things and some are disfigured and cannot walk right from being crated too long. Sadly the Humane society does nothing as long as they have food shelter and water they do not consider them to be abused. What about neglect, isn't that something? Anyway I have since found many more past volunteers who have equally horrifying stories and I have learned that some of the 35 dogs that I saw at that horror place have been there more than a year. I just want to cry. I hate to tell you not to adopt from them because that is the only way some of these dogs will get out of hell, but letters to the county to plead that they not be allowed to pull anymore dogs may help.
