| - My husband and I attended the sales presentation and joined the Direct Access several years ago. We love it. We used one of the certificates in Hawaii and stayed in a lovely resort. It wasn't beach-front, but we could walk a short ways and be right at the beach, so it was actually nice to be tucked away in the plumerias and quiet, away from the crowds. We also had a full kitchen and could cook good, healthy food and save money without relying on restaurants.
We also booked a week-long quarterly special deal in Mexico for $75! We used the membership discount to add another week-long stay for my parents to join us on vacation with their own room and it was $399, so overall 2 rooms and a kitchen with an ocean view, on the beach, for a family of 5, for 7 days, for $474 dollars!!!! Absolutely amazing, and my parents still talk about what a wonderful family bonding experience we had.
I see the negative feedback on here and am quite frankly, confused by it. A lot of the feedback hailing Sears Vacations as a scam is by people who didn't buy into the membership. For those who did and are complaining about customer service on the phone and additional resort fees in order to use their certificates, there is an easy fix for this: Log into your account online and start searching through the resorts. You can check the dates yourself to see if they are available and you can check pricing to see where you can use your certificate for a free resort stay and where there is an additional fee for a resort upgrade and how much it is. It is all really easy.
I have also used their travel agents to book flights and hotels. The flights were the same price as if I had gotten them myself directly from the airlines, but the hotels were discounted. The only issue I have ever had while working with Sears Vacations is that two summers ago, when traveling to South America, I booked flights through Sears' travel agency. When the airline cancelled one of my internal flights, the travel agent called to notify me and re-book my flight for me, which I thought was nice. But then I was on and off hold for two hours and she kept telling me that their English-speaking service was horrible. The whole process took so long and became frustrating - It would have been so much easier if Sears had a Spanish-speaking agent (so weird to not have one on that call) or if I had called myself. But all-in-all, that is a small thing compared to all the great benefits we've experienced being part of Direct Access.
