| - I'm so excited that Colectivo has opened on this block of Monroe St! I've been here three times since it opened, mainly to scope out the space and get a feel for the menu.
This is a really wonderful place to hang out or study. The cafe is really big, with lots of seating and tons of natural light. There's a fireplace, which is lovely for cold days, and all of the outside walls are floor to ceiling windows that can be opened upwards (like a garage door) in the summer. I can't wait to come back on a warm summer day to enjoy that!
The coffee is great, and they have a rewards program through which you earn points with every purchase, so ask for a card. Apparently you can also load money onto the card, and with 12 purchases of the same item you get the 13th free. I think this also applies to bean purchases. I really like Colectivo's beans...they sell them within a week of roast date, and they have a great mix of light to very dark roasts.
I've tried their raspberry scone, chocolate croissant, and a grilled cheese sandwich. The scone was a bit hard, but the inside was crumbly and buttery. It had a nice flavor. The croissant was definitely not as good texture-wise, but the chocolate they use is really tasty. My fiance and I split a grilled cheese, and it was pretty good. Overall, the food is decent but definitely not the main attraction.
I recommend Colectivo as a study spot or just a cool place to go hang out and grab some coffee. They have tea, smoothies, and other drinks for those who aren't caffeine addicts.
