| - Maybe actually your grandpa's coffee shop - at least, that's the vibe this Rising Star gives off. It's located in a charming historic building in Hingetown, and old-timey touches include the wooden furniture, vaulted windows, and one of those big pull-down maps that used to be in every classroom. You know, the ones that never actually roll up again when you want them to. Maybe that's why it's still hanging open to this day...
Anyways, whether you're young or old, student or retired, cat or dog owner, you're welcome here. There's patio seating, but I actually prefer the indoor communal tables or cozy two-seaters next to the wall -- because outlets are life. I've been weaning myself off coffee ("Why did you come to a COFFEE shop, Helen?"), and asked for their tea selection, being aware that the Little Italy location has quite a modest one. The barista explained that they only served one house iced tea so as not to compete with Cleveland Tea Revival across the street. This little demonstration really warmed my heart. I talked previously in my CTR review about their own friendliness with Beet Jar, so I'm sensing that there's an ecosystem of camaraderie among Hingetown residents instead of isolated partnerships.
Tangents aside, I finally got my Iced Tea and a Coffee Cake and settled in to work. The high quality coffee products and food Rising Star is known for is maintained here. Everyone was ordering Cardamom Bombs, so I'm going to infer for you that they're worth the hype.
There's free parking along the street here and nearby along Detroit Ave for those driving. Single, any gender bathroom located past the dishroom in the back corner. Wi-Fi worked fine in the beginning, but staggered as the afternoon rolled on and more customers rolled in to work.
One last cute tidbit: the employees will love the crap out of your dogs, if you bring them. Expect no shortage of love and treats.
