  • I saw this pop up in my "Hot and New" section on Yelp, and I knew I had to give it a try. Pastel de Nata 1881 specializes in producing and selling only Portuguese egg tarts. I'm not sure if they have locations elsewhere that sell other items, but this food stand recently opened up in the North Premium Outlets of Vegas. There are definitely pros and cons of opening up in an outlet. They have higher chances of selling their egg tarts to customers, especially as there is constantly a flow of traffic in the outlet daily. There are also a lot of customers from overseas who might be interested in purchasing one of these egg tarts if they feel hungry. But I also think that since they are located in the outlet, their customer focus isn't really on the people who live in Vegas. Not every customer would be interested in driving to the outlets - especially on weekends - just to purchase these egg tarts. I also found out that you have to pay for parking on the weekdays if you're not a local from Nevada. I ended up making the drive over to the outlets on a weekday since I had wanted to buy something anyway - and give myself an excuse to buy these egg tarts. The stand is located outside of Coach on one end of the outlet. Pretty much all they sell are these Portuguese egg tarts. They only make a limited number each day before shutting down once they're sold out - but the cart was filled when I came on a Tuesday afternoon. There were several samples available to try, but I already knew I would be buying some. Each egg tart is $3, but you can buy 4 for $10. Kind of pricey and definitely a strategy to get you to buy more. I probably would have only purchased one if each was only $2. The tarts were not piping hot as I've had them in Hong Kong, but they were still relatively warm. I ended up gobbling up one once I was in the safety of my car. The crust is pretty flaky, but kind of a stale flaky (not like the ones from Kee-Wah that shatter everywhere). You're able to break off a whole chunk of crust if you really want to. The top of each one is slightly burned brown - the way that it is supposed to be - which allows for the rest of the custard to be locked under that shell. Biting into it, you'll get that smooth, silk-like texture of the custard. If you enjoy eating the custard with the crust, then you'll get a mixture of texture; however, I like eating the custard before eating the crust - so it was slightly disappointing to see the bottom of the crust being quite oily and soggy. But the overall taste was on-point. The custard was not overly sweet, but had enough richness and flavor that kept you coming back for another bite. I ended up eating two of them that day and consuming the other two by myself for breakfast the following day. I had wanted to share, but it was too hard to resist. -If you pay by credit card, an $0.80 charge or so is added to the overall fee. -If you want to order more than a dozen, they recommend calling to place the order beforehand. tl;dr - If you're a big fan of egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts, I recommend giving this place a try. 4 for $10 isn't too high a price to pay for the quality and taste of the custard. I wish they weren't located primarily in the North Premium outlet as that really deters me from making another visit. Recommend eating these fresh, but having them the next day isn't too bad as well. The worker helping me was super nice. Definitely a positive addition to all the bakeries and pastry shops in Las Vegas!
