  • I was really looking forward to coming to The Nerd. Reviews on Yelp were pretty clear on the pros and the cons for the most part. Really glad I looked into it before going otherwise I probably would of had different feelings getting there. So here are my thoughts. 1) Video game selection looked pretty cool from what I could tell. They didn't look to have any signs or a list to share with their customers, like at Gameworks or Game Nest, that would tell you what games are in their library. You literally can just see what's there from what's on the TV screen and that's it. Apparently the staff took quite a while to find the video games controllers to give us for some reason. It wasn't just my friend and I that had to wait for them while the staff searched. I saw other customers wait too. 2) Lighting of the whole place is horrible. I couldn't even see the receipt I was given just to sign for the drinks I purchased. Then when I want to bowl they offer giving us scorecards to keep score. They don't have TV screens that keep track of the score like in an alley. How exactly can I see the paper with how dark the rooms are? Please either lighten up the rooms a bit more or provide clip boards with lights or something! :( The Billiards area is literally the only area that's decently lit in the entire room. 3) Music playlist had no theme or identity. It was a jumbled mess. 4) The staff we saw had no idea what they were doing. The fact they didn't have a menu and expected us to just pick a drink they MIGHT be able to do is ridiculous. I only drink on special occasions, so having a menu would be nice to have. They didn't have a menu, so I assumed the bartender would know the items from their new menu cause supposedly the menu is being "re-made". No she didn't. None of the staff we saw there knew. We asked the bartender about any sweet drinks she could make, and she had no idea how to help us. Eventually the bartender went into the back of the room to get an older menu. We decided to get two drinks of this "Blueberry Jolly Rancher Lemonade" drink and after waiting like 20 mins or so to get it, THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ALL THE INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE THE DRINK WITH (despite the bartender saying, "Whatever is on that menu I can totally make for you!"). I just took it as they gave me cause I wanted them to not come back again with more bad news of anything else. I just wanted to be left alone with my friend at that point to play games and bowl. Also the drink that was made in the end tasted gross. 5) Bowling is lots of fun, but their lanes break down after a while. I didn't want to talk to the staff so I pretty much played til the lanes we used broke down. 6.) My rating is lower because customer service is very important to me. I don't care that this is a bar. The fact that The Nerd has been open almost 4 months and the staff still is clueless on how to serve their customers is a really bad sign. You ask a question and to hear "I don't know." is not taking ownership of the job you currently work and the place you represent(seriously being told by one of the staff members it's only their 3rd day on the job was not information I needed to hear). You can have all the cool stuff like bowling and video games(which saved us from leaving really), but the service provided should be just as awesome! And really I hope management (if there is I never saw them) sees this, please don't take all of this as a bash. I WANT your bar to succeed! I WANT to keep coming back there. I WANT to tell my friends they should check out The Nerd. It's a wonderful concept you created! Just please for all of us that want to come back, train your staff, provide them with the knowledge they need to run things, show them how to make the drinks, show professionalism, show courtesy, and for love of all that is great PLEASE HAVE A MENU!!! :(
