| - Cox is the one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Over the last 4 years I have had so many things go wrong with my service, with billing, and then with their employees having attitudes and being downright liars.
From having an activation fee every single time I move, which is yearly because I rent right now, to having a phone line added onto my account without any knowledge. If you want the guy to come out and set up the Internet for you, or if they have to have the guy come out and flip the switch in order to have internet, that will cost $50+. If the guy doesn't have to come flip the switch and you want to set up the Internet on your own, there is a "Self Activation Fee" of $15+. Outrageous.
I can understand an activation fee when one first gets internet with Cox and they have never had it or it is a new account, but every single time I move into a new house, Cox charges $50+ for another activation fee. That is absolutely absurd. Oh, and they don't tell you there will be a fee for any of this, they just slip it in there on your next bill. Side note: NEVER EVER SIGN UP FOR AUTOMATIC BILL PAY!
The customer service is absolutely terrible. They use sweet voices over the phone and tell you everything you want to hear, after you have waited 2 hours on hold to talk to someone, and then make you believe that everything has been handled and you got exactly what you were looking for and nothing can go wrong. But then the internet doesn't work, or the pricing isn't what they told you, and then you have to call back to see what the heck is going on ONCE AGAIN, and be on hold for 2 hours. My method is, they answer and I tell them I would like to talk to a manager or someone who can actually handle what I am dealing with.
When I first signed up for Cox, I only ever asked for Internet. No cable, no phone, just internet. When my first bill came around, there was the activation fee of $50, my internet fee was $20 more monthly than what they quoted me, and the strangest thing...a phone line fee. I never signed up for a phone line, I never wanted a phone line, why in world was there a phone line fee. Yeah, they just decided to add the phone line on there. Taxes, additional fees, and everything. After 3 separate phone calls, each one about a 2 hour wait to talk to someone, I finally got the situation somewhat resolved, but then never got the monthly internet fee to what they originally quoted me. I took them to BBB and got what they originally quoted me, I mean come on, there are phone records of the conversation, right?
All in all, this company is terrible.
