  • My seven year old daughter and I took a girls' trip to Lancaster and stopped at the Herr's Snack Factory on the way up from Maryland. It was easy to find. I went on-line and made a reservation a week or so before our trip. It was easy and free. They have specific times, our time was 11 AM. We were in the Sour Cream and Onion bunch. They called us right on time to begin the tour. You start with a 10 minute video about Mr. Herr and the business and then go on a real factory tour. I wouldn't say it was really fun, but interesting. The pretzel area was getting cleaned when we were there. You do have to walk outside and up and down some steps, but it wasn't a hard walk. They give you a handful of warm chips, right off the conveyor belt. We had plain ripple ones. At the end of the tour they give you two small bags of chips, but you don't get to pick them. We got some kettle cooked chips and baked vegetable or something like that. I would have rather had different kinds, but whatever. I recommend it for kids that are 5 and up. There is a gift shop and a cafe too. They also have one of those machines that you put two quarters and a penny into and you get a souvenir penny. My daughter loves those.
