I really like the format. BBQ cafeteria style. You pick what you want to eat-you take care of your own condiments-you stock up on napkins-and you choose from ample seating inside or out. Joe's has plenty of room to stretch out, relax, play games, and generally have a good time. The nice staff took good care of us when we came in so we were all smiles & had high hopes for a great experience.
Unfortunately, no one in my party was a big fan of the food. I had the sliced beef brisket and the bone-in barbecue chicken. My husband had ribs. We also got a kids meal with pit ham and mac & cheese for my daughter.
The brisket was flavorful & tender, but not in a standalone way. It would probably be pretty good chopped on a sandwich but trying to eat the slices...well the meat was dry & yet somehow the texture was mushy.
The chicken was cooked fine but the dry rub left me with kind-of a bad taste in my mouth, my husband said the same thing about the rib sauce.
My daughter ate the ham but I found it watery rather than juicy.
My husband like the cowboy beans but we both hated the soggy, flavorless cheesy potatoes. The mac & cheese was fairly good homemade mac & cheese.
This could be a nice restaurant but the quality of food has to improve a lot to compete with other barbecue options. Either that or the prices have to come way down. We are unlikely to go back.
