This place is funky.
As an avid home cook, I can always rely on Super G to have that one strange ingredient I can't find at Trader Joe's or Harris Teeter. There is always some unusual thing in my fridge or pantry that I can directly attribute to discovering at Super G.
It can be overwhelming; the smell is no joke and the market itself is enormous. The staff will not go out of their way to check and see if you need help, but if you can manage to track someone down, they will do everything possible to locate what you're looking for. On one visit, I was having trouble finding something and three employees got involved to answer all my questions. All of my customer service experiences here have been top-notch.
PRO TIP 1: If what you're looking for is used among several ethnicities, check each of them to find the best price. For example, certain beans can be found in the Indian section and the Hispanic section. They will come in different quantities and prices. Rice is another story; it's in nearly every section and it's worth taking a few extra minutes to compare brands, sizes, and prices.
PRO TIP 2: If you're buying from the produce section, plan to use your purchase immediately. I haven't always had the best luck with produce shelf-life.
The best advice I can give anyone going to Super G is to be patient. Enjoy the experience and explore. It's nothing like your traditional American grocery stores, but that's a good thing. Embrace it.
