| - Meat & Potatoes is a trendy eatery located in the Cultural District and right in the center of Theatre Square. Parking here is extremely easy, especially if you go into the parking lot located on 7th Street (I think it's called Theatre Square Parking Lot?) The restaurant itself its bustling, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, so make sure you call in advance or use Open Table to make a reservation.
I came here last night for the second time to celebrate my boyfriend and I's anniversary. We had a reservation at 10 pm, since we were at Benedum Center for an opera. Upon arrival, we were seated within 5 minutes. The ambience is lively, classy, and has a wonderfully energetic aura about it. Our server immediately came over and brought water. Since my boyfriend and I were extremely hungry, we ordered as soon as she came over.
We shared the bone marrow, which was a decadent appetizer served with grilled toast, parsley and pine nuts, sea salt, capers, and pickled onions. It was delicious! The only con may be that it's quite a heavy starter, especially considering all the prime choices of protein you can order. For dinner, my boyfriend had the leg of lamb steak, and I had the adobo pork shank. My boyfriend loved his meal (he's a sucker for lamb) and it was a perfectly sized portion that allowed you to get full but not full enough for dessert. The pork shank was amazing. As soon as I tried to cut off a piece, the entire shank just fell apart. The meat was tender, a little bitter, and had some underlying spice. All in all, a great dinner. We ended up ordering the pot de creme for dessert and it was one of the best ends to a dinner I could ever imagine. The chocolate was silky and just melted in your mouth. The freshly whipped creme and crumbles added light and crunchy textures that perfectly complemented the chocolate. After a few bites, it can get a little too sweet, but the dessert, itself, never gets heavy.
Service here was the right balance of hands off and attentive. Our server checked in a couple times to make sure everything was tasting right and brought us water right as our water levels were diminishing. However, my boyfriend and I were never interrupted when we talked and had the chance to just enjoy each other's company.
Overall, I'd say Meat & Potatoes is a winner. It's hard for me to pick one con about this place. As long as you make sure you have a reservation, you're golden.
