| - On October 6, 2015 I saw a 2003 Ford F-150 Supercrew, on the CarFax website, that caught my eye. The picture looked wonderful and the I love the information that I saw on the CarFax so I left my information and was promptly responded to by salesman Bryce. I set up an approximate time that I would stop over for a test drive.
The next day I drove to the dealership during my lunch hour to check the truck out. I met Bryce and he brought the truck out so I could give it a test drive. The first issue I had was that Bryce started directing my where to drive, which was essentially around the block; not much of an opportunity to get on the highway to get up to some real speed. Never-the-less, I liked the truck as far as it drove and figured that before I pulled the trigger on the sale, I could ask for a longer test-drive.
During the drive, I found that the radio played put there was no display. Bryce said that I would be able to replace the radio for around $75. First red flag; I would think that a salesman would start making a few price concessions. I subsequently found that the center console was coming apart, the in-dash cupholder was stuck and the passenger rear door lock actuator was malfunctioning. No big deal; I figured that it would give me a few negotiation points.
We returned to the dealership and I told Bryce that I like the truck and wanted to know the out-the-door price but that I was under the gun and needed to get back to work. He did the typical salesman thing and wanted to know what I wanted to make the purchase immediately. I said that if he dropped the price $600, so that I would be able to have the issues that I had discovered fixed I would make a purchase. He said that it shouldn't be an issue and promptly introduced me to "Terry"? (can't remember but he was a big fella with a mustache). "Terry"and I went out to the truck and I pointed out my concerns. He said that the dealership could make good the problems but that the door lock issue would be an expensive problem. I said that I would need to talk to my mechanic and find out what it would cost before I would make a decision.
"Terry" did his thing and went to the office to talk to somebody. He came back and said that if they fixed every issue would I buy for (a price) that I felt was reasonable. I said that I would and he told Bryce to start the paperwork. I interjected that I would not pay until the repairs were made and I was satisfied. He said that they would have to "have something" before they would make any repairs. I stated that I would not give anything until I knew the repairs were completed. When I asked if they wouldn't need to make those repairs anyway, he said, "No, we don't always do that." Leads me to think that they would sell the vehicle with the hope that nobody would notice. At that point, I really needed to get back to work so I left.
If anybody from Showcase reads this, I am still interested in the truck but not until those repairs are made. You have my number and email address......
