This time, I wore a well-fitted dressed. He was going to pick me up, and walking towards his car, I could see his reaction already. When I got in, he let out his breath - "Wow!" His eyes burned into mine before he pulled me in for a quick kiss and a murmur next to my ear, "Belfast Love?" My mind was fuzzy and I couldn't even remember that I'd actually been to Belfast Love multiple times with my colleagues for drinks; I said "Yes." To think about it now, it wasn't the most original choice - he is Irish, pub is Irish, here we go.
We Green P parked right outside the pub and I got into a little "that's too close to the fire hydrant" mode. But, you just park 3 meters away. His presence had made me stupid - I thought the car had to be 30 meters away. He smiled at my fluster and snuck in another quick kiss that made my knees weak.
We walked into the pub, nice and cozy and got seated at a communal table all to ourselves - we sat close, him in front of me, hunched over me (and the menu). The menu is a piece of folded paper, and I am not entirely sure how I feel about it, given the prices at Belfast Love. The servers, however, are some of the most attractive girls in town, and suddenly I was conscious. Our server came by, and he ordered from the menu, his eyes holding mine the entire time; and I realized that he had eyes for me and just me that night. My face was probably a deep shade of red because my skin felt hot. We ordered our drinks - him a beer from the tap, and I ordered a $11 margarita that wasn't too good. We also ordered shareables from the menu - poke, oysters and punched fries. He was going to order more and I stopped him - I was hungry for one thing, and it wasn't food.
The poke portion was small for $14, but delicious. We raved over poke and it got us talking about how much we love seafood and we got planning another date - a buck a shuck place. The oysters were tiny and only 4 - I had one and I let him have 3. I usually never pass on oysters, but I've had better. The punched fries were just normal fries at a steep price - and quite disappointing. We sat there gazing, grazing, talking, raving about our favorite shows. And he popped the question, the one I was fearing the most and wanted the most - "A have a proposition for you. Why don't we go to my place for an episode of Black Mirror after this?" I teasingly said "Sure" and rolled my eyes at the imminent.
He bought me dinner, and we left Belfast Love hungry - if you get what I mean.
