  • Ahhhh Breadfruit....where do I begin? With your delicious cocktails? Your fun and happenin atmosphere? I wish that's where this review was going, but alas, I left your establishment with a bad taste in my mouth.... Let me begin by saying this was a solid 3 stars (maybe even 3.5?) before I got my bill. The "special fish" sounded great, and after Craig went on and on about how they have their own fish monger, and how the fish is flown in daily, and yadda yadda yadda, how could I resist? The fish was good, the portion was ridiculously small, and the accoutrement were completely forgettable. So riddle me this: How is it, that on a menu where no item is more than 14 bucks (all items very well priced by the way) that the "special fish" is f-ing 25 dollars??? I mean, if you have a special that is more than twice most of the entree's on your menu, you best inform the customer. I was not pleased to receive my bill and discover that little surprise on the check. Seriously, had the fish been priced closer to the rest of the entree's, the anger I am spewing currently would be much less vitriolic. Additionally, the accoutrement: grilled pineapple (ok, I get it, it's sweet), deep fried bread (WTF? you could lash these bastards together and float back to Jamaica on 'em), and coleslaw that is obviously meant as a garnish and not to be eaten. Give me a freakin break. The red beans and rice were whatever, my wife's jerk chicken was dry and NEEDED that chutney to be at all edible, and the meal itself was completely forgettable. Tack on the not-so-great souffle that Craig talked us into, and the more I've thought about my dining experience at Breadfruit, the more pissed off I am I'm 80 bucks lighter (2 entrees, 2 drinks, desert, and tip). Sure, sure, it was my fault for ordering all that, but c'mon man, I mean, really? I will return to this fun and drinkably tasty locale again for perhaps appetizers and drinks (most definitely the drinks) and the atmosphere when I'm in the downtown area, but I will here-for-to pass on further dining experiences.
