I have been invited many Thursday nights to the Mercury via a Facebook group called Ill Movements here in Calgary. I have always been encouraged to book reservations in advance before coming on these nights so imagine my surprise when I found the planet Mercury without life forms. There was a group of 10 people there however but this included the wait staff, Dj and ourselves.
First impressions, a nice loungy feel, low lighting, fireplace glowing feeling. I could get into nipping at a nice malted scotch here or a martini and having deep insightful conversations but tonight I wanted to dance!
The dance floor or what I did see was quite small and I did see a second level where I believe is a pool table and a smattering of other clients.
When I asked who was spinning, they answered Dj Fat Muffin, and I couldn't recall this as a familiar name on the Ill Movements entertaining roster. Plus I have to be honest as well; my friend and I did manage a chuckle or two several times that night just remembering the Dj's name.
We moved on to Hifi Club and I noticed that the few people that I did see at the Mercury had followed our lead and had also migrated there.
I need to update this review on a more busy night, which I have heard it has a mad reputation of having.
