I had to have major surgery here and being an nurse I watch everything. I was so impressed by this organization and I say organization because I have used their Urgent Care in the past. Getting back to St. Joe. From the minute I walked in to register to the time I was discharged I was amazed how caring and special this hospital was. Registration which is usually slow and painful was done fast and very professional. I next went to pre- op where I was met by two wonderful nurses. I don't tell anyone that I am a nurse because, for some reason nurses have a hard time taking care of nurses. These women whom took care of me were warm and very conscious of making sure I was comfortable and yes even nurses get nervous before surgery. They had me laughing and made sure my husband was comfortable too. My surgeon Dr. Harding came in and he is the best!!!!!!!!!! and we talked I also met my anesthesiologist just before Dr. Harding came in. Next I met my OR nurse and I wished I remembered her name she had me laughing too. I kissed my husband good-by and off we went into the OR. Everyone helped me unto the operating table where I saw Dr. Harding again. They keep me warm since the room felt about 12 degree ( not really) but they explained everything. I knew everything because I have worked in this area before, but I loved the fact that they keep be informed. Off to sleep and when I work up I was in recovery where both my daughter and my husband were. I don't remember much but around 9 pm ( surgery started around 1 pm) I was in my room. I was wide awake now and even walked to my bed which I wanted to do. I had the best nurses. I had a male nurse and I am so sorry I forgot your name, but I also had Roosevelt who helped me get out of bed to walk the halls around midnight. I was doing so good I was able to go home the next day. Discharge was smooth and easy. ( at another Hospital that I used to work at the hospitalists usually don't discharge until late in the afternoon causing a back up of patients waiting to go home and new ones waiting for a bed. The best part of this whole thing beside the wonderful treatment I got was that I got a refund for 1,200 about 2 months later from St. Joes after my insurance kicked it. Would I come here again, in a heartbeat.
