| - The good: I've been using National for over 5 years now, and used to travel enough to hit Executive quickly......I like that since my travel has dropped I still can reach Exec-status easily enough.
The BAD: they have improved over the last couple years quite a bit, easy online & App reservations, quick pickups & drop offs, etc. BUT ---- My biggest issue with National (and might be the case with any rental company??) is the cleanliness of the cars.....thus my 3-star rating (and again, without exec-status the cost of National is high compared to Budget & others besides Avis, Avis is also higher in cost).
When I rent at any level, but ESPECIALLY executive, I expect a clean car if I have to put a client or boss inside it!! I have repeatedly had to clean out the exec-cars myself (or take to a service), which is totally unacceptable. I've had trash left in the car multiple times upon pickup, had nasty coffee or 'other' drippings & stains on seats, doors & elsewhere; even had to stop and wipe the inside windshield because of the haze. I carry an extra pack of wipes when I travel and I use 4-5 wipes on my rental just to feel like I can touch the gear shift, steering wheel and control buttons without getting some kind of virus because it seems like the cars NEVER get wiped down!
I will say that without my Executive status I would be even less happy (probably with ANY rental company) as at least I can get a car with leather seats most often & can wipe these easier!
I hope National (at all airport/rental locations) will pay more staff for cleaning/turning the vehicles in the future!
