| - I first ate here about 2 years ago with an ethnic dining MeetUp. I ordered the fish cerviche because it is their signature dish that they are known for. But the taste was nothing that I would order again. The quantity was small for the price. Oh well.
I gave it another try about a week ago with a different ethnic dining MeetUp of 22 people. This time I picked Chupe de Camarones Soup from what I read in the reviews, before I arrived at the restaurant. But when I was eating it, it was BORING and BLAND! I kept adding salt, but did not improve the flavor. I also thought it was expensive. I ate some of the broth and there was probably 3/4 of the soup was left with plenty of the shrimp in it, when I decided I did not want to pay this full price and force myself to eat this boring soup, so I said I wanted to order the lamb that someone else was eating and said was good and that she would order it again. But the restaurant wanted to charge me for half the price of the Chupe de Camarones Soup, which I was not willing to pay. Yet if I was not willing to pay it, I had to eat the rest of this boring soup????? I said I was not willing to pay it and I did not eat HALF the bowl, which was full of shrimp and corn and egg and most of what they put in it. We argued about the amount left in the bowl, and that I did NOT consume half the bowl, as the bowl was not full when served to me. The server took the bowl back, and later came back with charging me $5. I said OK.
I eat out 2-3 x a week, and never ever in my life (I am OLD), had any restaurant wanna charge me for wanting to swap my bad choice for something else !
I ordered the Corderito Chiclayano, which is not at all the "lamb shank" that you get in a middle eastern restaurant. The cook sliced the shank horizontally, so the meat was flat on the plate, like a steak, with small round 1" diameter bone in it (had marrow). The corn was boring and bland too, and others at the MeetUp table said the same, bland and tasteless. The sweet potato was the most flavorful thing on my plate.
Corderito Chiclayano tasted much better than the soup or cerviche, but I would not order this again, either. It was only good enough not to send back.
Meanwhile the lady across from me ordered 1/4 chicken, with french fries. The chicken was sooooo tiny, smaller than a game hen. Boy I sure would not be happy with that! It looked all dried up and I asked her if it was. She said no, while she agreed it looked dried up, it was moist, but she was not too excited about it to order the same again.
Lady sitting next to me left her dish of raw fish uneaten, not the cerviche but something else that had a yellow sauce. She was not the kind like me to send it back, tho, so she wasted her money. She ordered a side of "safe" french fries because she said she was hungry, and had to eat something.
Service as adequate and not lacking that I heard, given the number of people in our party, 22 at two tables (for which we paid a mandatory 18% tip).
I was not impressed both times I tried this restaurant, so I am not coming back. I think it is expensive for what you get, which doesn't even taste good.
