We started renting instruments when my kids begin Orchestra in grade school. Renting is perfect with kids because my kids are not gentle. Anytime a string is broke or a bridge becomes dislodged or when my son dropped his cello, they just switch it out with no problem and no concern and no judgment. They really are the nicest people to work with. I love that after all the years of renting instruments I can put the accumulation of $ towards a new instrument when my kids are done.
I don't know anything about music, so it's nice having knowledgeable people with experience. My kids also take piano and every so often we have to buy a new set of books, the ladies up at the music desk are so helpful and so quick getting what you need. And it seems very reasonably priced. There employees love working there and it shows.
