| - This out-of-the-way spot is the crown jewel of the Pittsburgh Lenten scene. Hands-down, the best fish fry out of the roundabout two dozen I've tried in the area. It's the only place where I've had a random fellow line-waiter try to sell me on buying extra sides. ("Yinz gotta get da mac-and-cheese, it's ahta this world.")
The dinner is a mere $8, and really, it's more like a dinner for two. You get a mountain of fried fish and a whole mess of hearty French fries. The coleslaw was creamy but crisp, though I recommend adding a few drops of hot sauce to kick it up to an 11.
One note: call your order in ahead of time. The turnaround is really quick, but when I came in there were over a dozen people in line ahead of me. When I left, there were even more behind me.
Oh, and I should mention -- Mr. Yinzburgh 2013 was absolutely right about that mac-and-cheese. It was, forgive the pun, heavenly. And next year, when I return for another evening of fish fry goodness, I'll totally pass the word on to the stranger in line behind me.
