It is possible to have a chill relaxing weekend in Vegas.
GVR was solid for off the strip lounging and free of the "I just turned 21 so I'm about to get blasted out of my mind strip crowd!"
First time at GVR was like 10 years ago at their Lobby Bar with all the locals when I was freshly 21. I've matured and so has GVR. What's new is the "upscale" and family friendly shopping mall around it; Whole Foods, REI, Cheesecake factory, etc.
The room are classic and clean. Nice bathrooms. The toilets flush.
However, easily the best thing about GVR is definitely their sand bottomed pool and lounge area. The pool is family friendly with lifeguards on duty. It's open from 8 to 8 and looks Vegas-y without all the t&a. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/6kkxRV8H9SQLybj0xnEbMw?select=GUfzVjhVais7NgxIMc6EHw)
There isn't a fridge in the room, but I recommend their room service burger. Very good and high quality. Yes, there's a Fatburger downstairs which is almost the same price but it's crap. Save yourself the $24 and don't go for the lobster blt, the bacon overpowered the drenched in mayo lobster.
About a $140 night including all taxes/fees.
