  • Let me start this off by saying I LOVED my apartment. Was very clean, no maintenance issues, area was well kept for the most part and my stay was very pleasant for 3 years that I stayed. When rent was jumping up from $818 to upwards of $937 I knew it was time to buy a home. I put in my 60 day notice which they require there at Harmony. No one ever reached out to me about doing a walk through of the apartment when it was time to vacate. I reached out on 3 different occasions about a walk through but was given the runaround each time. I was working on the "only" day they were available for a walkthrough so my mother went for me only to find out they did the walkthrough without her. None the less Chris, one of the property managers, gave the apartment 2 big thumbs up! Was practically spotless. One exception was for the carpet which had a small bubble. He says "we will have to get a quote from the bubble in the carpet" To which her response was "why are we getting charged for the bubble?" His response was "because he lived there" (For those that don't know a carpet will never bubble or move if installed properly which this carpet clearly wasn't) We knew they couldn't charge for something like that so we assumed we were getting the full $405 deposit back, but to our surprise they were hitting us with a $238 charge to change the carpets! We asked what for? "A permanent stain which the carpet guys tried to get out" Well this "permanent stain" you suddenly speak of wasn't mentioned in the walkthrough. Do you have pictures of the stain? Their response "they aren't required to take pictures". At this point my mother and I are very frustrated with this whole experience but we decided to fight. We called the carpet company and were told that they hadn't even done work on the carpets yet? Strange.. By the way, we were supposed to have the remainder of my deposit sent to my home within 21 days of vacating. Here it was 54 days later and no letter, phone call. Nothing. We spoke with the ATA (Arizona Tenants Advocates) and were told that they need proof of this stain, if it wasn't brought up in the walkthrough they couldn't charge for it, and legally they were in the wrong for being nearly two months behind on the remaining deposit. Before taking any legal action we decided to send a letter of this whole experience; one sent to Harmony of Surprise and one to Greystar (property owners). When I reached out to Harmony I asked if they received my letter? Chris took my call and read the letter. After reading my letter he tells me "Alright Tyler I read your letter so I'm going to go ahead and void the check that was sent out and forward this to the company attorney" and hung up. I tried a follow up call and Chris states "the attorney will take it from here but I can no longer have any contact with you at this time" and hangs up the phone once again. About a week passes and of course no email or call from this "attorney" but we went ahead and sent a copy of that letter to Greystar. When I was on vacation a few weeks later we received a letter from Greystar with a full check for the total amount due. I respect Greystar for responding as quickly as they did and avoiding to have to take any legal action. The managers are lazy, unprofessional, shady. With all the new fancy add ins, and refurnished apartments they are starting their rent for one bedrooms at an upwards of $1000. Rent was $750 when I first started living their. Again the apartment was nice, but do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. The managers will only give you headaches at the end of the day. Definitely not worth what I went through.. Read the other bad reviews. They will vouch. Take care and good luck.
