| - I must say they definitely do things different here. I've been going to a regular dentist all my life, with the exception of this past month. I know what a good dentist does and one who knows what they're doing.
First visit was for paperwork and X-rays. My dentist (who I found out had only 4 years experience) did a periodontal chart (whatever it's called where your gum pockets are measured). Mostly 2-3's and a couple 4's, so yay. 4 cavities. Seeing as how I haven't been to a dentist in a year, I didn't think much of it. So I schedule a visit for my fillings.
When I went in for them, the dentist put topical gel on my gums and then a minute later (before the gel even had any effect), she stuck me with the anesthetic needle. OMG it HURT!! I've had cavities before, but the needle is usually a little prick because my gums have at least some numbness. I was in shock. I wanted to cry so bad. And then they left to do whatever. So I'm in the chair holding back tears while I'm shaking due to the pain.
So about 10 minutes or less goes by and she and the hygienist sit to start working. And then they start discussing her son. Um, ok unprofessional much?
I've never heard of matrix bands before prior to this visit. I understand their purpose, but they are uncomfortable as heck! It's a metal band fitting around a tooth that kinda screws into place to tighten it. It's to prevent the filling from spilling onto other teeth. Trying to keep my mouth open wide while these metal rods stick out of my mouth is very hard to do comfortably. Now, the drilling and all went fine, aside from the matrix bands. The dentist didn't do too bad of a job, overall. She just needs to have a little bedside manner, so to speak. However, 2 1/2 weeks later, my upper teeth are sensitive. It's uncomfortable to chew and even flossing around those teeth feels weird, like they're going to come out.
The next week for the cleaning went fine. She did her job, sort of. It wasn't too painful. My typical appointments involve pain and bleeding. There wasn't much of that, so I figured I've done a swell job of keeping up my teeth hygiene. Upper left molar seems to snag my floss. She said it's probably from the plaque. Ok no problem.
Fast forward a week and I'm worried about my teeth and their sensitivity. After any filling, they've never felt this awkward. I schedule an appointment with my regular dentist. They take X-rays and apparently some filling spilled over and is probably why the tooth feels weird and why it may snag. Oh, and the other hygienist apparently missed some plaque. And I thought a cleaning meant under the gums, too. Nope. But the hygienist mentioned I may need a deeper cleaning, hence why I called my regular dentist. I didn't trust Bright Now. So, at my regular dentist, I got another cleaning to remove the plaque the first gal missed and to get the plaque under the gumline.
So, $126 but well worth it. Debating to have my dentist fix that one filling, but I'll see. They didn't see anything else wrong on the X-Rays, so this sensitivity will just have to be dealt with and will hopefully go away on its own.
I'm grateful this is kinda trivial compared to some problems other folks have had with the company. However, if your dentist puts on topical gel, make sure to let them know if it kicked in before they stick you with needles.
I should've walked out. Who knows? My regular dentist may have found only a couple cavities.
Guess I'll never know.
But Bright Now won't see my face nor teeth again.
