| - We usually stay at the MGM when we visit Las Vegas. It is a nice hotel and has everything we want. On this trip, we arrived on a Sunday and had a very short wait to check in. The "Grand" rooms are good size still in good shape following a 2012 renovation. The MGM is upper-middle of the road price-wise for the strip, but you can usually get a deal on rooms through the Mlife program. MGM features several types of rooms and suites and the suites are a reasonable upcharge from regular rooms compared to many other strip properties. You can check out via kiosks in the lobby and get a statement e-mailed, which makes the check-out process much simpler and quicker.
The property has a slew of restaurants, many with associated celebrity chef names. On this trip, they were advertising happy hours in many of the restaurants, so we took advantage of Emeril's for an early evening drink and appetizer. We have eaten at several of these places in the past, and all are pretty good.
The pool is outstanding. It is huge, with a party pool, adult (not topless) pool, a river pool and 2 other pools. There are always plenty of lounge chairs and waitresses running drinks.
Like the pool, the casino is huge. Table minimums seldom fall below $15 for blackjack, but there are always plenty of tables from which to choose.
Overall, MGM Grand is a good property. It is located in a prime portion of the strip, has good food and drink, along with nice rooms. There is a monorail station in the hotel for easy access to other strip properties. The staff is friendly and as attentive as they can be in such a large hotel. My only caution is to be prepared for some walking. Like any of the major hotels on the strip, it is quite a hike to get from your room to the street.
Have fun and say hi to the money I left in the casino.
